Who Is a Good Fit for Humanis?

Humanis, Sing for Peace is a dedicated, collaborative ensemble of singers who share a deep commitment to musical excellence and our mission.  We are an auditioned, unpaid, primarily a cappella ensemble of around fifteen members (a mix of professional, semi-professional, and gifted amateur singers).  To help you decide if our group is the right musical home for you, here is what we look for in our singers:

• Independent Musicianship
  You are comfortable holding your own vocal part independently, even within complex, challenging repertoire. You can learn music quickly and independently outside of rehearsals, ideally supported by strong sight-reading skills.

• Low Rehearsal, High Impact Schedule
  We maintain a streamlined rehearsal schedule – typically just one regular rehearsal per month, plus a few additional group rehearsals leading up to our performances (~3 per year). New members are expected to independently learn their parts, as well as our core standard repertoire, so group rehearsals can focus on ensemble unity and refinement rather than note-learning.

• Vocal Technique & Blend
  You enjoy exploring diverse choral styles – ranging from Baroque and Romantic masterworks to contemporary compositions – and can adjust your tone to achieve a cohesive, unified group blend.

• Multilingual Comfort
  You are comfortable singing / learning to sing in languages other than English, including Latin, Russian, Spanish, German, and others. You work toward excellent vowel agreement with your peers.

• High Level of Artistry & Commitment
  You take pride in refined vocal technique, thorough preparation, and personal accountability to your fellow singers.

• Mission Alignment
  You are passionate about using the power of music to spread peace, beauty, and connection throughout our community and to everyone who hears us sing.
